Jamie Prebble

New Zealand’s leading ski cross athlete, Jamie Prebble is rapidly making his way up the international rankings!

Born and bred in Canterbury, New Zealand – Jamie has always felt connected to the outdoors, and growing up he always made the most of the region’s abundant hills and stunning natural landscapes. He’s been at home in the snow since he was four – enjoying the thrills, spills and speed with family holidays around his local Canterbury mountains, and trips down south to Treble Cone.

“From a young age, the competitive edge to beat my two brothers down the mountain has carved my competitive passion. Right from the start, I loved the freedom of my pushing myself to my limits and the exhilaration of the speed rushing against my face,” says Jamie.

As a young athlete, Jamie’s strengths were spread across a range of sports such as athletics and tennis – but more than anything, the Prebble family was drawn to the mountains.

“When skiing, I simply feel alive. The sheer beauty of the mountains is where I feel right at home. There is no better feeling than after a day on the mountain, being completely satisfied and connected to the magnificence of Mother Nature.”

After a successful alpine career, four years ago, Jamie made the decision to switch codes to ski cross in the pursuit of action and fast-paced adventure. At just 25, he has already dominated the New Zealand ski cross scene, and started to seriously impress on the world stage.

So far, the sport has taken him to Europe and North America where he competed in the Audi FIS SX World Cup circuit, the 2013 World Alpine Champs, and the World Freestyle Champs, notably taking third place in Austrian National Champs (2016), first place at the European Cup in France (2016), first place in the European Cup in Switzerland (2017).

“I’m determined to strive, reach and win at the highest level of my competition – that’s my ultimate aim. I love representing New Zealand and I want to prove that Kiwis can mix it in a sport dominated by countries in the northern hemisphere. I like pushing myself both mentally and physically, with my goal being to bring back a medal for New Zealand at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Korea.”

Jamie joined the Macpac family in 2016 as an ambassador. So far, he’s worked alongside our design team, testing our gear in a range of environments, and assisting with product development.

“I love Macpac – it’s a brand I’ve grown up with. In my sport, having gear that I know I can rely on is so important – and I can absolutely trust Macpac gear to perform at the level I need. Whether I’m training, enjoying the snow in my spare time, or just exploring the outdoors back home, and around the world, Macpac gear has the style and technical features I’m after – and I’m so excited to join the team.”

Macpac is proud to get behind Jamie, supporting him in his racing, his adventures, and his travels.
